Our personal development offer

What is personal development?

As children progress through their school journey at Norton, they are provided with opportunities to thrive as individuals. Through the provision of an enriched curriculum and extra curricular activities, our children are enabled to develop into confident, creative individuals with their own voice. We aim for our children to leave Norton as happy, confident learners who aspire to be their best and live life in all it's fullness.

How?

We recognise that the development of pupils spiritually, morally, socially and culturally plays a significant part, not only in their ability to learn and achieve their best but also in their ability to relate to and have the ability to access the world they live in.

We nurture an understanding of others and themselves through a varied curriculum. Through relationship, social and health education, collective worship, learning and experiencing Christian and British Values and through our Thrive approach, we aim to offer an education that provides opportunities to explore and develop their own values, whilst recognising that those  of others may differ.

Oracy education is vital as it empowers children to express their ideas, reflect on their beliefs and engage meaningfully with diverse viewpoints. Through active listening and speaking, pupils are enabled to share and develop their own knowledge and experiences, empowering them to better understand themselves, each other and the world around them.

Norton Fitzwarren Church School offers a range of extra- curricular clubs, sports and creative opportunities which children can get involved, in addition to enhanced curriculum activities such as trips, external visitors, celebrating National days and community partnership opportunities.

Pupils are encouraged to take on roles of responsibility such as School Council and Wellbeing Champions. In year 6 pupils are offered roles such as House Captains, Charity Team and Worship Team which encourages responsibility and collaborative working.
